I always feel the best way to start is at the beginning.

A long time ago in a galaxy far away…thats not right.

How about.. Once upon a time… hmmm.

When I think back to one of the most influential moments in my parenting life I focus in on one event.

This  event was so important it changed my life and the life of my family.

FOREVER.

Fade back to 10 years ago.

I had just given birth to our third child. I was now a stay at home mom for the first time in my life.

I was terrified.

How were we going to support 3 children on just one income?

I was crippled with fear.

I just kept vacuuming thinking that money would just start growing on the trees in the backyard.

When that didn’t happen I knew I was in trouble.

A friend suggested I check the library out for book about saving money.

I began to scour the library for books on saving money.

Sadly, most of the books I did find were full of lots of tips for shaving off a few bucks here and there but nothing about ways to really save some real money.

One day I found it.

THE BOOK.

The book that would change everything.

I owe it all to this  it I discovered  frugality and how to achieve it with a large family.

The bible for tightwads everywhere, The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn.  Such an amazing book.

Not a novel but really a compilation of six years of a newsletter that  Amy Dacyczyn published in the 1990’s.

This book highlighted crazy ways to save money; such as Yard Sales, bulk buying and Used Clothing.

You got it used was the golden word here.  This was all new to me.

Fast forward 10 years. For the last ten years my amazing husband I have raised our (now seven!) children on one income.

We still have fun, go on vacations,  eat healthy and our children have closets packed with quality clothing all without living in a cardboard box.
